Types of Photography
The evolution of the still camera has given birth to a multitude of different photographic techniques as well as genres of photography. Amateur photography is of course the most common since everybody these days can use a digital camera easily for casual use. However, there are professional photographers who specialize in different genres of photography such as food photography; fashion photography; commercial photography; aerial photography; animal photography; portrait photography; tabletop photography and so on.
Among the more dramatic styles of photography is aerial photography, which is shot from a plane or any other airborne device. Aerial photography uses special lenses and techniques that are required to shoot from a height.
Commercial photography is primarily for advertising and product shots designed to create tempting visuals for promotional uses. This also includes food photography and fashion photography. The emphasis is on drama and composition with a message or story to tell.
Fashion photography in fact is the most glamorous form of photography and usually results in stunning images and concepts to make the human form as beautiful as possible. Food photography too pays a lot of attention to make the subject, in this case food, as beautiful as possible. It requires special props and a certain amount of visual cheating for simulating food items.
Documentary or journalistic photography is of a more factual nature and is a documentation of events or situations. It is generally true to life and is often shot under circumstances that do not give the opportunity to frame shots or pay attention to the creative aspect.
