The Digital Camera
The Digital camera can take still photographs or video, digitally using an electronic image sensor to record images. There are a number of compact digital still cameras, which can record moving video and sound along with still photographs. In fact, in the Western countries Digital cameras are more popular than the 35mm film cameras.
Digital cameras have features that the film roll cameras do not have such as the ability to display images on a screen immediately after recording them; being able to store thousands of images on a memory device; being able to record video with sound; and deletion of images in order to free storage space.
Digital cameras are now used in various places such as mobile phones and PDAs. The Compact Digital camera is meant to be small and easily portable. They are supposed to be easy to use and have compromised on picture quality for the sake of compactness. The images on this camera can normally only be saved as JPEG’s. It also has a built-in flash, which is not very powerful.
Framing an image on the Compact camera is usually done with the Live Preview feature. The motion picture capability on this camera is limited and even as far as the lens is concerned it has less zoom capability. However, it has greater depth of field and allows objects to remain in sharp focus even within a wide range of distances. Compact cameras are particularly good for casual use such as on vacations when there is little time for preparation before recording an image.
